The importance of CNC machine maintenance

Publish Time: 2022-01-12     Origin: Site

CNC machine maintenance can seem like a boring chore compared to the other tasks of running a successful machine shop. When a machine breaks down, business owners can lose thousands of dollars, not only in the cost of repairing the failure, but also in lost profits. In those irritating moments, missed maintenance can be maddening. With many mechanical moving parts and high-tech components, breakdowns are inevitable. However, short, consistent checklists and long-term preventive plans can help reduce the risk of costly downtime.

This passage is going to talk about the followings of CNC cutting machine:

1) CNC machine Routine Maintenance

2) Steps for cleaning your CNC machine

3) Spring cleaning of milling machines and lathes

4) Conclusion

1) CNC machine Routine Maintenance

These are the "apples a day" to keep your CNC machine out of the machine emergency room. They sound simple, and they are. A few small checks at the end of each day or shift can help catch problems before they snowball into major breakdowns. Machine tool experts recommend the following daily maintenance schedule.

2) Steps for cleaning your CNC machine

Check those fluids. CNC machines need adequate fluid levels, such as lube oil and hydraulic fluid. Using your machine daily will give you a good benchmark of how quickly you need to replenish fluids. Check your machine when it starts using fluids at higher rates. Excessive use of fluids can be a sign of a problem.

Give them grease. Grease is what keeps all working parts moving and slotting smoothly for operators. Not all machine shops check lubrication points daily, but we recommend that you look at all moving parts for dry spots. A quick fill of grease goes a long way toward reducing unnecessary wear.

Renew with a rag. Wipe down all surfaces to show a little shine by removing store dirt. Wiping the machine daily will also prevent smaller metal shavings from building up in areas prone to damage - such as the way seals are covered.

3) Spring cleaning of milling machines and lathes

When performing a thorough spring cleaning on a milling machine.

Make sure that the machine enclosure is cleaned and that chips are completely removed from under the guide covers and ball screw areas. Basically, perform a full cabinet cleaning!

Check that all lubricants are at normal levels and working properly.

Fine tune the automatic tool changer (if necessary) so that it continues to change tools perfectly without jams or paper jams.

Perform a thorough inspection of the spindle and spindle drive system to ensure that there are no contaminants affecting the overall life of the spindle.

Check the spindle belt for tension, oil, debris and wear to avoid unnecessary or untimely downtime and to avoid damage to parts during cutting operations.

A ball bar test is recommended to check the roundness and alignment of the machine flats.

4) Conclusion

In short, it is very important to keep your cutting machine clean. If you are interested in our cutting machines or have any questions about the maintenance of your cutting machine you can contact our professional staff, we are happy to help you.
